AMD is preparing to announce the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D processors at CES 2025. But while the wait continues, those expecting a larger 3D V-Cache in the next-generation processors may be in for some disappointment. According to a reliable source, the L3 cache of these models will remain at the same level as the previous generation Ryzen 7000 X3D processors. So, users who want more cache can save their expectations for another spring.
Ryzen 9 X3D: No change in 3D V-Cache, but overclocking potential
Some users expecting a performance boost may be disappointed that the amount of 3D V-Cache remains the same. But the good news is that the new processors may be more flexible in terms of overclockability thanks to the inverted cache design.
We already know that the Ryzen 9 series is generally more overclocking-friendly than the Ryzen 7. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D could be attractive for users who expect high performance. Meanwhile, Intel’s next-generation Arrow Lake-S processors fell short of expectations in terms of performance, leaving AMD officially unrivaled in this generation.
The company is competing with itself right now. But still, the fact that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D outperformed the previous generation Ryzen 9 models makes one wonder if AMD will be able to close the gap with the new Ryzen 9 series.
The new Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D models will be announced at CES 2025 and will hit the shelves in late January. However, whether they will be innovative enough for those expecting a bigger cache boost is still up for debate.
